Air quality

Trams emit no pollutants at the vehicle, although there may be emissions at power stations depending on the form of generation. This feature is valuable in a city like Edinburgh where there are high concentrations of some pollutants and reducing traffic emissions is a goal of the Council. A variety of pollutants are automatically measured in Ediburgh, at a monitoring station close to Princes Street near the proposed route of the tramway. These measurements are part of a UK wide monitoring system and are available on the web.
